September 9, 2022 - Fly to Jersey Shores, PA

Today I was flying David up to Jersey Shores grass strip airport in Pennsylvania to visit his grandson who is a powered parachute instructor.

The weather was fine flying up but the Pennsylvania valleys were filled with ground fog.   The forecast had said it was supposed to burn off by the time we got there, but it didn't happen.

Looking at Interstate 80 as it heads west through Pennsylvania.

We tried to find a hole over Jersey Shores airport which is just west of Williamsport and on the Susquehanna River.  But it was solid overcast.  We backtracked 30 miles or so to Penn Valley Airport where we landed under clear blue skies.

Parked on the ramp at Penn Valley.  We were only here twenty minutes or so.  David's grandson said it was now clear at Jersey Shores so we headed back that way.

The clouds had magically disappeared over Jersey Shores so we landed on its beautiful grass runway.

Here is David with his grandson Jake.

Jake showing us the powered parachute equipment.

More powered-parachute rigs.

Jake walks out to the grass area to demonstrate flying a powered-parachute to us.

Jake is ready to go with the powerplant backpack on and the wing staged behind him.

There he goes, flying in front of the RV-7.

Skimming just above the ground.

Now he's got some altitutde.

Jake really knew how to fly that thing.

Greasing it on!

Jake is an instructor so he is really good at flying the powered-parachute.

A close look at the engine, which I believe has a single cylinder and is a two-stroke.

The "Cambulance".

The outfit Jake works for is only in Pennsylvania during the summer months.  Most of the time they operate down in Florida, at Lake Wales Airport.

Many of the instructors and trainees just camp at the airport.

Flying home, we flew high to get over the Harrisburg TRSA airspace.

Here we are looking down at the infamous Three Mile Island nuclear reactor complex, southeast of Harrisburg.

After landing at Essex Skypark, David left and Zac showed up.  I have been meaning to give Zac a ride in the RV-7 for a long time and we finally knocked it out today.  I think Zac enjoyed his ride.
